1. He times His Breaks with Yours

Sometimes that makes him feel more comfortable and reduces the chances of a major letdown. If you say no, then he didn’t take that much of a risk to begin with, since he didn’t ask you out privately. Things could potentially become awkward between you afterwards, so he likes to play it safe first.
